This past Ash Wednesday, Lent began with a reminder that God created us out of the stuff of earth, the gorgeous rich soil with lots of nutrients and hidden life, and home to thousands and thousands of God’s beautiful species of beings.
We are dust creations made from gorgeous rich soil. We are wonderfully-made, beautiful, and good in God’s sight. We are God’s beloved creation. God’s breath gave us life. We exist because of God’s love.
The 40-day season of Lent is a time of preparation through prayer, self-reflection, and intention. Lent prepares us for Holy Week when we listen again to the story of Jesus falsely imprisoned, crucified, and risen in Jerusalem.
Lent is also a time of repentance, a newness in faith, and a re-awakening. Repentance in Greek means turning to and facing God. In prayer, we notice where we are in our relationship with God. Are we turned away from God? If so, what change must we make? As we examine our spiritual life, we are mindful of our intention and desire to be closer to God.
Jesus said, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” For this Lent, let this be your meditation.
During this time of reflection and renewal, may you rest in the truth that God’s love is the treasure that will last forever.
May your heart be with God.
Have a blessed Lent.
God bless you.
