In the church calendar, the new Christian year begins on the first Sunday of Advent which was this past Sunday, December 1.
Happy New Year!
We are now in the season of Advent.
Advent means “arrival”, “the first appearance.” Advent is a season of contemplative preparation. We spend four weeks preparing ourselves for the arrival of the Promised One, Jesus who was also named “Emmanuel” which means “God with us.”
During this important event on the church calendar, each week of Advent focuses on a different theme – hope, peace, joy, and love.
During Advent, we walk with Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem. We hope and expect. We actively wait, sing, and pray anew for God’s light to overwhelm the world. Please join us.
God’s light shines eternally. God’s mercy endures. God tells us that we are not alone. We have each other.
